Two races will kick off at 8 a.m., November 1, 2025, at Fairview Plaza office buildings, with a 5k taking you through scenic South Park neighborhoods and a 1k Fun Run keeping you close to Fairview Road. Music, activities, and real heroes, members of all five branches of the U.S. military, will make for a fun, special event.
HeroRun benefits the local charity Veterans Bridge Home, which helps veterans transition back to civilian life. The nonprofit identifies their education, employment, and healthcare needs and connects them to community, state, and federal agencies.
Over the past nine years HeroRun has donated more than $221,000 to this fantastic group and hopes to top $300,000 in total donations with the growth of HeroRun in 2025.
Though he never served in the military, Jake and his daughter spent the last three years of his life working to end Veteran homelessness. It all started when his nine-year-old daughter came home from school outraged that people who served their country had no place to live. So they created a “lemon aid” stand and donated the money to Veterans Bridge Home. Jake saw his daughter’s passion for helping others and they created “The Lemon Aid Stand” to provide direct support to homeless Veterans living in homeless encampments outside of Charlotte. Once they started, Jake’s family became increasingly involved in the Veteran community, including running in the 2019 Hero Run. A dedicated father, the Lemon Aid Stand and running 5ks became the things Jake and his daughter did together.
In July 2022, Jake went to the hospital for an unknown infection. Four days later he was gone. News of Jake’s death resulted in a flood of prayers and questions about how friends and family could help. His family decided the best way to honor him was to raise money for the cause they loved so much. The Lemon Aid Stand raised over $60,000 for VBH to help prevent Veteran homelessness.
For the past seven years, HeroRun has contributed a total of $133,000 to support Veterans Bridge Home. By becoming a sponsor, you can receive exclusive benefits.
